Ah, the running back position. This is where teams are built, and can also be the downfall of a fantasy squad. For entertainment purposes only I present to you, the masses, The A-List.
Tier 1 - If you can get 'em, get 'em.
LT - I'm not even gonna spell out the complete name, any format's number one overall player. He gains yards, scores touchdowns, throws passes, catches passes and is even the AFC Walter Payton Award winner, the total package.
Steven Jackson - this workhorse of a back will score touchdowns, carry the rock and do it all as the first option for "the greatest show on turf".
Larry Johnson - slipping a notch, not due to L.J.’s talent, but things around him, (quarterback, o-line, no outside receivers) will dictate that he runs against 8 man fronts at all times. His possible hold out doesn't help his case for fantasy owners either.
Brian Westbrook - dual threat back, Donovan McNabb's security blanket on late flare passes, excellent running after the catch, will provide plenty of total yards every week.
Frank Gore - rising star, getting tougher as he gains experience, with Alex Smith projected to make that next step, expect Gore (The Inconvenient Truth) to put up huge numbers.
That Next Level - Not bad for not being tops. (In no particular order)
Edgerrin James - bounce back year as Leinart leads an explosive passing attack opening the field for the edge.
Willie Parker - "Fast Willie" has shaken the notion that he can't be an every down back, watch him do it again (if Big Ben doesn't keep turning the ball over).
Shaun Alexander - running on a broken foot did nothing for Shaun, but his biggest loss was in front of him (Steve Hutchinson) he'll bounce back this year, not to his old form but he'll be back.
Laurence Maroney - say "good bye" to Corey Dillon and hello to more carries for L. Maroney, this big back with breakaway speed will flourish in the Patriot's system now that they have legit wide receiver threats.
Joseph Addai - replacing "The Edge", proved to be no problem as Joe won a ring. Now, with the departure of Dominic Rhodes, more touches will equal an increase in production.
Sleepers - Don't get caught napping on these backs.
Marshawn Lynch - watch the new guy.
Thomas Jones - solid, steady hard nosed pro.
Travis Henry - hard worker in that Bronco system = great stats
Keep an eye on
Brandon Jackson, the combos of Adrian Peterson/Chester Taylor, Marion Barber/Julius Jones, Maurice Jones-Drew/Fred Taylor and Reggie Bush/Deuce McAllister.
